BOLIVIA
Special Day of Prayer for Bolivia
On August 10th an important election will take place in Bolivia. This referendum has been called by the central government and President Evo Morales and is a vote where the people of Bolivia will decide if President, Vice-President and the governors of each State will stay in office.
The terms of both President and Vice-president formally expire in January 2011. They would lose the recall referendum if more than 53.74% of voters - their margin of support at the December 2005 election - rejected them. In that case, a new general election would be held. Until now, no one has been able to predict a possible outcome.
Bolivia is more divided than ever at this time. Many States do not want this referendum and so are boycotting the voting on the 10th with protests against the Central Government. The governors of 5 of the 9 States say they will not hold the referendum in their regions, calling instead for early general elections.
Please be praying:
Pray that demonstrations will remain non-violent, with minimal injuries and no casualties.
Pray fervently for the Salvation of Bolivia President, Evo Morales and his Vice-president, Alvaro Garcia.
Pray that the Bolivian Church will remain strong during this time and will not succumb to Political pressures to trust in man.
Pray for unity in Bolivia amongst regions, social sectors and people groups. Bolivia is very divided right now from East to West, between city folk and country folk and between European decent and Indigenous people.
We are trusting the Lord that Christians will be praying for Bolivia throughout the day, every hour, on the hour, that the Lord will intervene in this country and its future. Please join us on August 10th as we lift Bolivia before the Lord. Take this letter to church with you. Forward it to your friends. Let's do all we can to make folks aware of the need.
