Bolivia Projects
Opportunity for You to Give

Dear Partners in the Ministry
It has been the prayer of our heart for the past year to find projects for community development in Bolivia that will empower the local church and affect the communities through the church.
Here are some that you personally, as a family or as a church may want to participate in. If you decide you would like to give towards one or more of these projects, let us know which one (s) and then you can send your donation to Pioneers stating on a separate piece of paper that you would like it to go towards “Quechua Projects #10565”. Please make your cheques out to Pioneers Canada.
May God bless you as you serve Him in this way,
Greg and Lily Muir on behalf of the Quechua People

  1. Bread Ovens. – The need to provide fresh bread and employment has been brought to our attention in many communities. One of Bolivia's Evangelical Denominations has presented an application on behalf of one of the areas they have churches in for help with funding a part of the cost of bread ovens. There would be 8 propane bread ovens in all. The benefits of this are to provide fresh bread for the community, provide employment and income for the people and an investment that could be used for paying a pastor or outreach in the area. The people of each church have committed themselves to paying all of the cost of preparing the bread and a percentage of the actual gas oven. They are asking for help with $200 per oven. This will be a onetime gift to this project as the ministry will be self sufficient. Total cost of project – 8 ovens x $200 = $1600.00

  2. Weaving Looms –Because the majority of the people earn their living by herding llamas or sheep, they have lots of wool. They can turn this wool into things that can be used for themselves personally and to be sold in national and international markets. Some of the churches have already been using looms but they were on loan and so now the looms have been taken back. It would be good for each of the 8 zones to have its own loom to be able to generate income through the sale of their woven products and as an outreach to the other folks (unsaved) of the community who also will come and use the loom. The amount of money being raised for each loom is $200 which only represents a part of the total cost. The churches have committed themselves to paying the rest. Each zone will prepare an agreement also as to how they will use these looms. Total cost of project – 8 looms x $200 = $1600.00

  3. Llama corrals – These will be used for mother llamas and their young to protect them from the harsh climates. It is an adobe structure with a roof on them. They are pretty big (8 x 5 meters). Through meetings with the townsfolk of certain villages it has been determined that these corrals are a genuine need and desire of the people. corral smallThe benefits would be to keep more young livestock alive which leads to more income. It could also lead to the opening of markets in Bolivia (perhaps outside) in meat and wool or its by-products. Each corral costs around $1500 USD for materials and transport to the area (because of the remoteness). Fence posts and barbed wire are also included in this project to corral the male llamas. There would be the need for 3 of these at this time. This could also give teams for NA opportunity to participate in this type of building projects, working alongside the Bolivians in the construction of these corrals. Total cost of project – 3 corrals x $1600.00 = $4800.00

  4. Pharmacy – This project is for the start-up costs for a pharmacy in partnership with a Bolivian Organization and its doctors. This project will fulfill the need of lower cost medicine for patients of the ministry and will replenish the shelves through the sale of the medicine. Start-up costs for this project are $700 USD for the medicine and $390 USD for a medicine cabinet, desk and chair. Total cost - $700 medicine + $390 furniture = $1090.00

  5. Banners – These are educational banners that will be used by medical personnel to teach health in the countryside. They are large (3'x5') in size and printed on tarp-like material. Each banner costs $31.25 USD and this ministry is needing 8 of them. The benefits are that they are good visual aids, easy to transport and resistant to water and the abuses of transporting them. They will be used to teach on human reproduction, sexual education and the negative effects of sinful lifestyles on our bodies. Total cost of project – 8 banners x $31.50 = $252.00
